Why, hello!
You have stumbled upon quite the blog.
In fact, this may be the most organized random blog you shall see.
I could probably spare you the few minutes of reading and just summarize everything you’ve chosen to read here as a portal into the mind of an aspiring author, humanitarian, and environmentalist. But if you’re really into blogging and want a decent “about” page, then I suppose I can start from the beginning. With “I”.
“I” am Alexis, a 20-year-old desert-born sustainability student at Arizona State University, lying low as one of the nerds of the joint who loves to learn instead of party. I currently camouflage myself in Glendale, Arizona and seek education from the West campus. Most importantly of all, I am accompanied in all my antics and randomness by my beautiful and rambunctious calico kitty, Gypsy.
What is the inspiration for Shorts and Snippets, you ask? Well, between the ages of roughly seven to fourteen, I wrote, and I wrote a lot. And I didn’t just write little stories or poems, mind you, I wrote novels. Books. And I was proud of those books – I still am, as a mater of fact. Two of them were put into paperback by a private company and were sold to raise money for a wonderful organization called Heifer International (check them out here). I was quite the little author, if I have your permission to brag a little.
And then, starting about six years ago, I stopped writing completely. For too long I could not look at pen and paper and I got lost in the world of grown ups and nearly forgot how I was born a slave to words and their meanings. The sparknoted version of the story, however, is that the will to write again is coming back to me, this summer of 2012, by means of random thoughts, observations, stories about my life, rants.
This summer – and yes, an Arizona summer begins at the end of April – will be my chance to enlighten and entertain my friends who will get a kick out of this blog. This could also be my chance to write to nobody but myself since it’s not likely that hundreds of people will even click on the link that brings you here. I’m fine with either option. I’m here to write purely because I have something to say and enjoy saying it.
Shorts are for the ultimate tool for surviving an Arizona summer and the happiness they bring to those who love feeling the sun on their skin.
Snippets are for the little ideas that are now slowly making their way back onto paper, for the erratic functions of my mind that I am finally able to express once more.
And with that, dear reader, I welcome you to this blogsite, and leave you with a quote from my good friend Anonymous:
